The Horseshoe Effect: Extremism, Antisemitism, and Jewish Identity in America
In today’s political landscape, the extremes of the right and left often appear to be polar opposites. Yet, as the horseshoe theory suggests, they frequently converge in ways that are particularly dangerous for Jewish communities. Our program explores this phenomenon, examining how extreme ideologies—though seemingly at odds—share deeply problematic narratives about Jewish identity, power, and influence.
Through interactive discussions and facilitator-led activities, participants will:
- Recognize and challenge antisemitism across the political spectrum.
- Develop leadership skills to confront bias and misinformation.
- Analyze antisemitism as a systemic issue that harms not only Jewish people but society at large.
- Explore Jewish identity and experience in all its diversity.
- Understand the intersectionality of oppression and how antisemitism connects with other forms of hate.
- Advocate for a just society by fostering education, allyship, and community action.
This program is part of ADL’s Words to Action initiative, which empowers Jewish individuals to become leaders in addressing antisemitism while deepening their connection to their identity and community. By shining a light on the dangers of extremism from all sides, we equip participants with the tools to push back against harmful narratives and champion a more inclusive future.
