Shabbat Service at Home (For those not participating in the streaming option)
Making Your Technology More Shabbat-Friendly
As a community deeply rooted in the traditions of the Conservative/Masorti Movement, our congregation has not used electronics on Shabbat or Yom Tov. For this reason, we have abstained from digital streaming services on Shabbat or Yom Tov.
As the pandemic and social distancing continues indefinitely, we understand that we live in an increasing time of pressing circumstances, referred to as a sha’at hadehak. In times of pressing circumstances, Jewish law has provided possibilities. After serious consideration, study, and thought, we find there to be precedent for our community to stream Shabbat and Yom Tov services, under specific parameters.
Our weekly Shabbat gatherings have been a hallmark of our congregation and are essential to the cohesiveness of our community. To maintain and continue with the beauty of the strong Shabbat community, we would like to get everyone together as best we can.
Shabbat service times will reflect our typical schedule:
Friday Evenings: 6:00pm
Saturday Mornings: 9:30am
Havdalah: Check times weekly
Please download the siddurim from here in anticipation of our services - we will be using the downloadable Siddur Sim Shalom. We will be announcing and following pages from the downloadable Sim Shalom only, which you should download and or print. Please save them for weeks to come - please do not discard them in the garbage.
Please download the following documents after filling out the form from the link above:
Siddur Sim Shalom: Shabbat Morning (with additions for Shabbat Rosh Hodesh)
Siddur Sim Shalom: Kabbalat Shabbat and Shabbat Evening Service
Siddur Sim Shalom: Services for Saturday Night and Havdalah
If you need assistance with downloading siddurim or accessing Zoom, please be in touch with our Executive Director, Michael Kahn, prior to Shabbat at michael.kahn@bhbe.org.
This will be a temporary adjustment for an extraordinary circumstance. Therefore, when we are permitted to rejoin in person with no limitations, we will discontinue streaming.
